Weeks 15-16 (Thanksgiving Break)

Thanksgiving Blessings to Your Family!
Prayers for a relaxing Thanksgiving with plenty of time reflecting on all the blessings God showers upon us.  I know my thankful list is quite long!  I am thankful for each of my students and the great year we have had so far, I look forward to what God has planned for our class in 2016.  I can't believe we will come back to school and it will be December... Advent services, Christmas, and new years are just around the corner.  God is good and we are BLESSED TO SERVE!

Advent Services:
As we await the coming of our Savior we spent each year worshiping through Advent services.  Zion's Advent services start 12/2 please join our school worship at 10am or Zion's evening service at 7pm.

Science Plant Dissection
Positive reports from Mrs. Murray about the 7th grade flower dissection!  The students had fun using all the science lab equipment and learned about flower parts along the way.

Successful Thanksgiving Food Drive & Delivery to the St. Louis Seminary:
Student Council delivered 20 Thanksgiving dinner boxes and two car loads of food to the Seminary food bank Friday the 20th.  I love seeing students live out their servanthood, it makes me very proud to say they are my students.  This project wouldn't have been possible without every students and family who donated items at last Wednesday's chapel.  THANK YOU!

Jr. High Dance Friday, Dec. 4 hosted by STUCO:
Comics & Super Heroes
Time:  7-9:30 p.m. in Zion’s commons  (Please don’t arrive early and plan to pick up promptly)
Cost:  TBA - Usually around $5-6 which covers DJ expenses and snacks.  No extra money needed besides admission.
Dress:  CASUAL - we’re talking jeans and appropriate T-shirts or tops.  Please help your child make a wise decision here.  Students may dress up like a super hero or favorite comic character to play along with the dance theme, but this is not required.
Parents - what to expect?  A lot of standing around and visiting in herds. Many kids are dancing by the end of the night. This is an old fashioned “mixer” activity that helps kids get used to socializing in a new way.

Week 13-14

REPEAT: The Season of Giving is upon us (#BlessedtoServe)
  • As we look forward to the Thanksgiving, Advent, and Christmas seasons we are often reminded of the message it's better to give than to receive.  Sometimes, I admit, I feel my heart being pulled toward so many different causes but my mind says there are only so many pennies to give!  As opportunities arise for you to give from your blessings keep in mind the words of the great missionary Paul:“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:7-8 NIV)
Class Christmas Project
Thank you for the generous signing up of items for our class project -- "Helping Hands" bags that the class will make at our Christmas party.  They are excited about putting these together.  We talked for quite awhile about encounters with homeless and ways we can give out of our abundant blessings. Please contact Mrs. Walgate if you would like to contribute in some way. (7walgates@gmail.com)

Thanksgiving Food Drive
Wednesday November 18th is Zion's annual chapel food drive in support of Seminarians at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO.  This year student council is asking each grade to bring specific items so they may provide the Seminary with a well balanced supply of food and household goods.  The Jr High has been given bathroom toiletries and cleaning supplies (See the list below).  This is a suggestion, but your donation is not limited to the list.
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Lotion
  • Body Wash
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo
  • Conditioner
  • Sponges
  • Paper towels
  • Cleaning Supplies
Walk-a-thon & Christmas Items Drive:
Dear Zion families,
The walkathon service project continues as we move in to our November items drive for the junior high students. We continue to support Christian Friends of New Americans. Below is part of the flyer that went home in the kids' Friday papers. We will pack the welcome bags in early December to delivery to our organization.  Together, we are blessed to serve!

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.  1 Peter 4:10

The junior high service project for November and December is to collect new socks and small to medium sized new stuffed animals as part of a welcome kit for our sponsored organization,
Christian Friends of New Americans.

What can YOU bring in to help?
Socks
(New. Child to adult sizes.)
Stuffed animals
(New. Able to fit in a gallon size Ziploc bag.)

Our goal: 200 welcome kits
That is approximately 2 bags per student. We can do it!

Please bring in as many socks and stuffed toys as you can, in order to help fill these welcome bags!

Items purchased from the additional funds collected during the walkathon service project will fill the remainder of the bags along with witness messages. Please have your items in by Tuesday, December 1st.

Red Ribbon Week Door Decoration:
Our class designed a "Shoot Down Drugs" door for school door decorating contest.  We did not win, but I am proud of the positive message they came up with!
Art:
Fall Leaves demonstrating creativity in LINE design.
Wild Animal Symmetry showing understanding of VALUE and SHADING.  Can you tell which side is printed and which side is drawn?  This might be my favorite project of the whole year!

World Stacking Day
Fun times in the gym with Mrs. Steinbacher and cup stacking, trying to break another world record for number of students cup stacking around the world.

Veterans Day
Pastor Rouland led Zion in a beautiful worship service Wednesday celebrating Veterans Day.  There are no word to accurately and fully show our appreciation to those who have and are serving our country.  May God bless them and their families.  I wish I would have gotten more pictures, thank you Mrs. Ernstmeyer for this one!  (Drew and grandpa)

Zion's New Website
Zion is excited to launch their new website for both church and school!  This is a great place to direct families looking for a day school or church home.  Share these websites, your Bobcat pride, and love of Christ with everyone!

7th Grade Class Christmas Service Project
  • See the note below from Mrs. Walgate regarding a 7th grade service project.
This year in conjunction with our class Christmas party I would like to have the kids assemble "helping hand" packs. Have you ever pulled up to an intersection and noticed someone asking for help, usually with letters scribbled upon a piece of cardboard. My goal is to assemble enough packs so each family can keep one on hand in your vehicle and pass it on when you encounter someone seeking assistance. Room parent funds can assist with this project but I am also seeking donations of the items listed below to help fill the bags. Our goal is 26 bags so we will need at least 26 of each item. Please email me to let me know what items you might like to provide so we can ensure a variety of items arrive to fill the packs. Items should be turned in no later than Friday, December 11th. Cash donations are also fine and I will gladly pick up whatever we need. Thank you so much and let me know if you have any questions.
