Week 15

Volleyball Girls Go to State!
I am very prod of the A1 Girls' volleyball team (both as a teacher and a coach) for landing in third place at the LSAM tournament this past weekend.  Here are some great pictures from the weekend:

Thanksgiving Dinner Boxes:

  • Our class spent some time with the pre school and kindergarteners; they were on a scavenger hunt for Pete the Cat's shoes!  We had a blast and gained some respect for those kindergarten teachers :) "How do they keep them from running away?!" - 7th grader

 Thanksgiving Dinner Boxes:

  • The Student Council Officers delivered Zion's annual food donations to the Seminary this Friday.  November's chapel offerings were used to purchase turkeys, dinner rolls, pans, etc. and were added to the abundance of food brought in by the student body.  Every year the Seminarians are blown away by the generosity given to them.  After delivering the 20 Thanksgiving dinner boxes we moved down to the Seminary Food Bank were we restocked their shelves with the overflow of food given at Wednesday's chapel.  What a cool experience for me to see Zion students leading a service project!!

Academics:

  • Student were busy this week, and last, creating timelines of Muhammad's life as well as timelines of their own life.  It was fun to learn more about the these awesome students!
  • Students are currently working on designing and creating their Christmas wreaths.
  • We are starting "A Christmas Carol" in Literature class; students are excited to act out their roles (props & costumes are encouraged!).

I would love to see you at Zion Advent Services during this season of preparation:

Wednesday, Dec 11 10 AM/ 7 PM - 3rd and 4th grades

Art:  The autumn season is reflected in our art projects!  We love those fall colors :)

Black paper, glue, and pastels

Academics: It was a week crammed with tests assessing our students' knowledge!  In World History students completed their study of "The Geography in the Arabian Peninsula."  They were tested on the four geographical regions and adaptations for living successfully in those regions.  Playing charades was a fun way to learn about Arabian geography and ways of living.  Students also took a map test of the Arabian Peninsula.  They have been working towards breaking my timed challenge record of 17 seconds for naming all the countries and bodies of water correctly on a map :)

Students had fun creating pictures books retelling the story of "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi."  Ask them to share their books with you!

Blessings to you throughout this month of November,

New Bible Study Opportunity: You've heard of the Baby Boomers, the Gen Xr's and Gen Y'rs, but what about today's kids? Today's kids are a "different animal".  Consider these facts about today's kids: they've never rode a bike without a helmet, never road in a car without a seatbelt, have always cooked popcorn in a microwave, and think that Bono and Madonnna are aging singers.  Today's generation of kids are referred to as Generation iY.  Come to Bible study at Zion starting this Sunday (November 3rd) and learn how we can best parent and educate this generation of kids.  Based on Author Tim Elmore's book, Jon Bernhardt will lead you through a discussion rich study on Generation iY!

Red Ribbon Week Festivities:
Tuesday: "I mustache you a questions..."

Wednesday: "Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Drugs aren't for you!"

Academics: Students are working on time management skills; asking themselves, "am I using my time in the best way I can?"  I love seeing better choices being made and helpful attitudes toward each other.

I hope every Jr. High student had a wonderful at the Masquerade Dance Friday Night!!  The dance is a great time for fellowship, friendships, and fun (awesome dance moves too).

Blessings on your weekend,
