10/21 - 10/26

In the week of 10/21/12-10/26/12 we have been working on many subjects.  In Art class we received a blank, ceramic pumpkin to paint however we would like!  In World History class we have been studying the Arabian Peninsula, its environment, and the adaptations Arabs would make to live there.  In Literature class we read the story “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” and watched the cartoon.  It was GREAT!

TRUNK-OR-TREAT was Friday!! In this event kids dress up in halloween costumes and run around from car to car trunk-or-treating!!!

ATTENTION JUNIOR HIGH!!!!!! The junior high dance is on November 2nd. The theme is GLOW!!! We require one chaperone from each class. If you are interested you can contact Mrs. Cluck!  It costs $6.00 to attend.  Students should come to the gym at 7:00 p.m. and parents should arrive to pick up at 9:30 p.m. Student Council members stay till 10:00 p.m. for clean up.

SPELLING BEE:The spelling bee representatives (Steven, Scott, and alternate Nick C.) of Zion’s 7th grade are going to be going to the Zion Lutheran high school at about the same time that the Junior High dance starts. The spelling bee kids can arrive at the dance after the spelling bee and do not have to pay!

Wrapping Up Quarter One

Can you believe it, only 2 more weeks of the 1st quarter!  Here are some classroom updates from my perspective & some very important dates:

> Feudalism Projects turned out great.  I'm still working on publishing the video on our blog, so hang on & get excited!
> We're starting a new chapter in World History about the Roman Catholic Church during the Middle Ages.  Students will be able to compare and contrast the role & beliefs of the Catholic Church with that of the Lutheran Church.
> Students are working on a Descriptive Essay (due 10/8), ask to read it or have them read it to you.  The creative juices are flowing!
> Students are currently working on a "Wild Animal" Symmetry & Shading Art project, I can't wait to see the completed drawings!
> We are continuing to study God's Word, understand the difference between Law & Gospel, and reviewing the key parts of the Lutheran Doctrine.  Do you know what the word "theophany" means?  Ask your 7th grader!
> 18 AR points are due THIS FRIDAY 10/5 (remember this is 1/3 of the Literature grade)
> Last day of the quarter in next Friday 10/12
> Tests before the end of the quater will include: Memory, Religion, and History

I look forward to seeing all of you parents at Parent-Teacher conferences coming up mid-October.  Enjoy the pictures of Art & Walk-a-thon.
